Time for a little self-care and pampering. We all need it!
One of the key elements to luxurious home spa days are essential oils. These ancient elixirs are powerful healing agents, relieving stress, lifting our spirits and calming our minds.
These ancient elixirs are powerful healing agents, relieving stress, lifting our spirits and calming our minds. You may know the most common ones, such as lavender, citrus and rose. Lavender is a nervous system restorative that helps with sleep and irritability. You can also put it directly onto a burn, for pain relief, as well as regenerating the skin.
All the citrus oils — lemon, lime, grapefruit or tangerine — can shift a cranky mood in moments. They are joy in a bottle! Try adding a few drops to your bath, or choose a citrus-infused candle, and feel the tension melt away. Rose, Patricia’s favorite, is a balm for the heart, and helpful for depression, anger and grief.
Here are a few more essential oils that you may want to incorporate into your own routine:
Frankincense is great for treating anxiety because it provides a calming and tranquil energy. It’s also grounding, and excellent for stimulating clear and coherent thinking
Bergamot has a distinctive floral taste and aroma. If you’ve ever smelled or tasted Earl Gray tea, it is infused with Bergamot. It has been proven to reduce cortisol and support healthy adrenal function, key for our ability to manage stress
3. Ylang Ylang
Ylang Ylang brings us happiness, courage, optimism and soothes feelings of fear. It’s popular in many perfumes, but most potent in its pure form as an essential oil
During this time, when so many of us are dealing with uncertainty, worry for the health of ourselves or family members, and the temporary loss of life as we knew it, it’s critical to take care of our physical and mental health. Self-care is not selfish! If it’s hard for you to take a few hours for yourself, think of it as refueling your tank so you may be truly present for yourself and the ones you love. We’re all learning to find joy in everyday pleasures. Whether it’s a long bath and cup of tea or a nap, a quiet hour with a wonderful novel or a meandering walk in nature, please spoil yourself this weekend. You deserve it! – Julia Loggins
